If you’re a woman in India with big dreams in science, technology, engineering or mathematics and have your sights set on studying in the U.S., this could be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.
Earlier this year we launched the DETermined Scholarship to support talented and ambitious Indian women in STEM and we’re excited to announce that applications are now finally open!
Offering a grant of USD 30,000 to cover tuition fees for an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in STEM at a U.S. university that accepts the Duolingo English Test (DET) for the Spring ‘26 semester, the scholarship goes beyond just tuition support. It’s about amplifying your vision, connecting you with mentors and backing your journey to make a real-world impact through STEM.
Launched in collaboration with the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, the DETermined Scholarship is part of a shared mission: to create more accessible pathways for women in STEM and support future leaders who want to drive change through science and innovation.
Application process and timeline
Applications are live now on the Manthan portal and will remain open until 30th June 2025. The selection process follows a comprehensive three-step approach to identify the most deserving candidates:
- Application Phase: Applicants submit their complete application, including a DET score of 120, a strong academic record (60% and above) and a proposal outlining their vision for innovation in STEM.
- STEM Impact Proposal Challenge: Shortlisted candidates will present innovative solutions to pressing global or community issues in STEM. Submissions can be in the form of a concise proposal (maximum 1000 words) or a 5-minute video, showcasing creativity, research and potential impact.
- Final Interview: Finalists will participate in a virtual interview with a distinguished jury panel.
The recipient of the DETermined Scholarship will be announced in September 2025 and the scholarship amount of USD 30,000 will be paid towards tuition fees for the Spring 2026 semester. Interested candidates can access the application portal at manthan.gov.in and complete their submissions online. The platform offers comprehensive guidance throughout the process, including detailed instructions and timeline updates.
In addition to financial support, finalists will benefit from mentorship by STEM experts, helping them navigate their academic and professional journeys and strengthening their leadership potential.
